Parade setting off from Lumley Road

The eigth Skegness Light Parade took place on 24 September 2022 with 106 inscriptions for the event.  This year a number of wingers arrived by car but we still had 77 bikes on the light parade.   Once again we were blessed with good weather and once more we had agreement from the local council to close Lumley Road for the day making the whole of the street a pedestrian walk-way and providing plenty of space for us to park up and show off our bikes.  The streets of Skegness were packed with late season holiday makers who were enjoying the last warm days before autumn sets in.  This meant that Lumley Road was packed with sight-seers who came to enjoy our event.

Once more, the Golden Palm Holiday Resort in Chapel St Leonards hosted our weekend and also provided a fantastic raffle to help raise money for our adopted charity "LIVES" (Lincolnshire Integrated Voluntary Emergency Service).

The weekend started on Friday with inscription and our regular briefing for the Lincs-wingers who would play active roles in the event.  This was followed by our static light display in the local car park, where camp residents had the chance to walk around and see the bikes, (and wingers got the chance to say hello and renew old acquaintances).

Saturday morning we set up in Lumley road ready to receive bikes and visitors.  Marshalls patrolled the ends of the street so that only bikes and emergency vehicles could enter (despite the protestations of some frustrated motorists).  As always, Lincswings ladies manned the inscription desk but sadly we had lost Christine earlier this year so we were unable to run the cake stand for which she was famous.  We were however offered a generous discount for parade members from the Atlantic Fish Bar and Coffee shop.

As always we managed to have at least one really interesting visitor to our event, when a fellow showed up on his Penny-Farthing bicycle and he offered to take round a collection bucket for our charity.

The static parade lasted from 10.00am until 4.00pm, after which many bikes returned to camp for a rest and sustenance.  We then re-assembled at 6.00pm to get ready for the light parade.  A total of 77 bikes formed up for the parade and we were greeted by The Jolly Fisherman, the Mayor and the lovely.  Unfortunately the Carnival Queen was unable to attend as she was away at a family wedding as a bridesmaid for the day.

After the parade we returned to the Golden Palm Club house
where awards were presented as follows:

Best bike: Graham Eagles

Best Trike: Dave Crowley

Furthest travelled: Barry Furtell

Jayne Sands best in show: Bev Francis

Best region went to Tudor Rose

This year's parade raised £3000 for the LIVES charity and we would like to thank everyone for their generous donations and participation.

if anyone’s has photos of last nights parade please post them to Skegness Light Parade Facebook…., Thank you all
