Update from the GWOCGB Chairman
As you may or may not be aware we on the National Committee have been working behind the scenes, with e-mails and telephone conversations going backward and forwards between the committee and vendors. We have also been waiting to see what the government’s plans were with regards to coming out of lockdown. It’s come as no surprise that it is going to be a gradual lifting of restrictions in 3 main stages.
Stage 3: being implemented possibly on the 4th July 2020 which is the opening of the entertainment and hospitality industry. This will be baby steps and the likelihood is that large gatherings of over 100 people will not be allowed for some time to come.
Taking this into account the National Committee and an e-mail from Tony Perkins regarding the Treffen (See Attached abridged copy). We have taken the decision (with your safety in mind) on the following events, The 40th Anniversary Treffen, WingDings Light Parades and the Friendship weekend.
40th Anniversary Treffen
The 40th Anniversary Treffen will be POSTPONED until the August bank holiday in 2021 (26th -30th Aug 2021). As a result of Tony Perkins talking to both Uttoxeter Race Course and the company providing the showers and toilets both of which we had paid deposits to. They have both agreed to honour our contracts with them and carry over the bookings for next year which is good news.
For all those people who have pre-inscribed, you have 2 options; firstly leave it where it is and carry it over to next year or two requests a refund. Should you require a refund? You must in the first instance contact Helen Perkins as she has all the details and will liaise with the Treasurer, Barry Hawkins regarding payment.
This decision has not been taken lightly but the safety of both the membership, followed by club funds must come first and I believe that we have achieved in looking after both.
WingDings
The Wingding calendar is now empty with all regions having cancelled their event; the good news is that all regions who have paid a deposit have managed to carry it over until the next year. I hope that we can have a full calendar of WingDings in 2021.... over to you Reps!.
Light Parades
It was decided to leave the Light Parades to the individual organisers in consultation with the National Committee as they are dealing with the campsites on a one to one basis.
Belgium Friendship Weekend
As this event is not until October and a lot can change in that time, there is still a possibility that it will be allowed to go ahead!! (as it is smaller in numbers). I do know that Chris has paid a large deposit to the hotel so again we wait for the Hotel to decide whether the event can be held or not there by protecting our deposit. Chris Hinds is in contact with the committee on a regular basis. Watch this space!
Sadly we have been left with no choice in making these decisions, but they have been made with your safety being paramount. We now need to look forward to next year and hopefully a calendar full of events/Wingdings. I would ask all Regions to see if we can achieve this. Let’s make it a year to remember for all the right reasons and put this one behind us as the year that never was.

NEW YEARS EVE - CHARITY UPDATE
We can now announce that along with “Sarah’s Dream” Huntington’s Disease charity (that we announced on Christmas Day) the second and final charity that we will be raising monies for during our Great British Treffen will be the “MIDLANDS AIR AMBULANCE” www.midlandsairambulance.com
As well as covering Staffordshire (the county where we are holding our International event), the Midlands Air Ambulance also covers Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Shropshire, Worcestershire and the West Midlands. They also provide secondary cover to Warwickshire and mid Wales. They operate THREE Air Ambulances and average around 2000 missions a year. Each year it costs in excess of £9 million to maintain the three aircraft . The Midlands Air Ambulance relies entirely on the support and generosity of local businesses and members of the general public and therefore the Goldwing Owners Club of Great Britain and everyone attending our 40th Anniversary Great British Treffen will be honoured to be raising funds for such a great cause.
It’s now the final day of 2019 and this will be our last 40th Anniversary Great British Treffen announcement for this year - don’t worry though as there will of course “be lots more updates” for you all in 2020.__________________ !! ____________________
40th Anniversary Great British Treffen - CHRISTMAS DAY CHARITY UPDATE
We have saved this announcement until CHRISTMAS DAY to try and give a little joy back to A VERY SPECIAL COUPLE in our Goldwing club who do so much for others, especially during the Festive season
Jeff and Gail Brook we are delighted to let you know that we have chosen SARAH’S DREAM as “ONE OF OUR TWO CHARITIES” for our Great British Treffen in 2020
We will be honoured to raise monies for a charity that is so close to the hearts of the both of you and your family
Jeff and Gail are parents whose daughter, Sarah, passed away from Huntington's Disease on 17th October 2016.
They started fundraising in October 2015 and run a small charity called 'Sarah's Dream' and all monies collected by them is ultimately passed directly to the Huntington’s Disease Association of Great Britain www.hda.org.uk
Their beloved Goldwing has lovingly been named “Sarah’s Dream” and is used to raise monies for this wonderful charity
Jeff (Santa Claus) and Gail (Mrs Claus) have just completed another Christmas of visiting children and the emergency services on Sarah’s Dream, their 1800 Goldwing which is lit up with hundreds of multi-coloured lights, giving out sweets and toys on their journey.
All expenses are covered from their own pocket and sweets and toys are donated to them by friends and local businesses.
Huntington's Disease (HD) and Juvenile Huntington's Disease (JHD) is a devastating, hereditary illness and the children of any parent suffering from HD have a 50/50 risk of inheriting either HD or JHD.The onset of JHD can be as young as 4 or 5, so no sooner have young ones learned to walk and talk and eat, they start to lose those abilities.
Over the last few years Jeff and Gail have raised some quite substantial sums of money, here are just a few of them :-
12/5/19 £1000
16/3/17 £1500
Over £300
23/8/16 £500 from Asda in Tamworth
12/5/16 £700
We look forward to raising monies for Sarah’s Dream at our Great British Treffen and hope that this announcement on Christmas Day has bought a little bit of joy into your hearts
