LINCS WINGS Wing Ding 2014

Lincs Wings held their bi-annual Wing Ding between 30 May and 1st June 2014 at the Wyberton Sports and Social Club near Boston.  Wingers from 16 different regions attended the Wing Ding with a total of 53 inscriptions, 83 members and 8 non- members, including some day visitors on the Saturday.

The camping ground was set up on the football pitch providing nice level ground with no stones.  The first campers to show up on Thursday in fact came from furthest away but the site soon filled up throughout Friday.   Following a tasty dinner in the Social Club, Goldwings were lined up for a Beauty Contest, judged by members of staff from the Club.  Friday evening gave our resident DJ Ron a chance to challenge our knowledge of TV theme tunes and jingles in his Quiz Night.  How many can recall the theme to "Bill and Ben the Flower Pot Men". After the Quiz, won by Trevor and Marion's team, Ron struck up the disco for a night of dance entertainment.

On Saturday morning, following a scrummy full English breakfast, bikes and trikes assembled in the car-park for the Wing Ding Ride-out.  A total of 24 bikes and trikes set off at 10.00am following Doug as the ride-out leader with Mark as our Tail-end Charlie.  The route took us through some lovely back roads at a most enjoyable pace.  We made a stop in Heckington at the Windmill Cafe before travelling on to our destination at the Ice-cream parlour in Woodhall Spa.  We had a chance to roam around this lovely country village before making our return trip to Wyberton.

Setting out again at 1330, we returned to Wyberton just in time to watch a Supermarine Spitfire of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight which came especially to the Wing Ding to give up a flypast and short display.  Saturday afternoon then consisted of sunbathers, shoppers and a Pool Competition (the board game, not the wet one).

Here are a few characters we caught on camera.

We learned later that Caroll, who had been out for a ride on Saturday, had run into a problem when her GL1100 died at the side of the road.  She entitled this photo "Impromptu Picnic".  Fortunately, she was well supported and soon had her bike recovered to the repair shop.

Of course no Wing Ding can go by without something catching you eye so here is a quick run around of just some of the bikes and sights.

Saturday night was Presentations Night starting with a short introduction from our Regional Rep, Sandy.  He presented engraved plaques for furthest travelled female, which turned out to be our very own Caroll, whilst the furthest travelled male this time came up all the way from Wales.  He also presented the prizes for best bike and trike from the Friday Beauty Competition and also the prize for the TV Quiz Competition held Friday evening.

Prize winners were:

Best Trike -  Tony Rimmer
Best Bike - Paul Brooks
Furthest travelled female - Caroll Armstrong
Furthest travelled male  - Ken Turner
Fun Quiz Winners - Trevor/Marion and family

He then introduced Tim Brooks, the newly elected GWOC Chairman, who gave a few words of introduction and related his experiences with GWOC.  The raffles prizes were drawn followed by the auction of a very nice battery powered hammer drill which had been kindly donated by WICKES.  Overall, the raffle raised over £350.00 for the Notts and Lincs Air Ambulance fund.  The night was then topped off with a Disco provided by Ron and some exhibition jive and line dances provided by Stephen and Lynne.

Sunday started with another full English breakfast followed by a Welly Wanging Competition.  The competition was fierce using many traditional and unorthordox techniques but in the end the trophy was won by Yellow Bob Short Pants .

Overall Lincs Wing Ding was deemed a thorough success by all who attended.
