Air Ambulance Charity Collection - 31 Jul 2016

For the last day of July, wingers met at Morrison's Supermarket in Grimsby to collect donations for the Notts and Lincs Air Ambulance and to advertise the Skegness Light Parade.  Ron and Dee showed up on-site at around 06.30am in order to reserve the spaces in front of the Supermarket entrance,  Next on the scene was Stephen and Lynne who arrived at 10.00am followed closely by Mark and Debbie, Doug, Trev and Marion, and then finally Martin C arrived with his trike.   We set up shop outside the front and side doors to greet shoppers on their way in and out.  The Manager at Morrison's had been kind enough to offer us the use of the staff canteen and toilets so we were well looked after during our stay.  Collection went on until 2.00pm when it was decided to call it a day.  After totalling the donations, we found that £304.21 had been collected from generous shoppers.   Thanks to everyone who donated monies to this worthy cause and thanks to the wingers who showed up to make it all happen.  Also a very big thank you to Ron and Dee for making the arrangements for the day and for looking after us during our stay and to Morrison's Staff for their tremendous support and good will.

Well done everyone.

A Grand Day out in Hemsley - 24 Jul 2016

We all met at the Humber Bridge Visitor area to enjoy a coffee (ice cream) and pee before setting off up t' North.  With Mark and Debbie on point and Stephen and Lynne as tail end charlie, we set off into the traffic.  The weather was gloriously sunny but this had just encouraged plenty of other people to be out on the roads with us.  However, the group comprising 7 bikes (Mark/Debbie, Doug/Sue, Stephen/Marie, Ron/Dee, Griff, Trev/Marion and Stephen/Lynne) managed to keep a tight formation and only occasionally had to reject cars from our midst.    We set off towards Beverly, then through to Cherry Burton and Wetwang with a stop at Fimber for teas and pees.  We then pressed on to Malton and Helmsley parking up at the Castlegate Bakery.  Helmsley is literally full of cafes and restaurants so there are plenty to choose from.  Also, some of us opted for Pasties and pies from the Castlegate Bakery, which were really scrummy.  We took a turn around the town and also popped over to the castle ruins (but you need a bit more time to go in for a visit especially the walled gardens).  At 3.00pm, we all got ready to return (Ron and Dee had set off earlier) however, disaster struck, when Trev and Marion managed to break a wing mirror housing on their bike.  A few hasty repairs followed and we set off with Trev's left mirror in the boot!  Again a nice ride back stopping once more at Fimber and then straight on over the Humber Bridge to let everyone disperse in their own directions.  Thanks Mark and Debbie for a nice, well controlled ride-out and thanks to everyone that took part.

Wolds Bikers Charity Bike Night - 22 Jul 2016

The annual Charity Bike Night organised by Wolds Bikers was blessed by a pleasant evening which brought bikers out from all corners of Lincolnshire and beyond.  The turnout was good with bikes both old a new on display.  Stephen and Andy decided that the public should have the chance to see some real bikes so we took our wings along to display.  There were lots of charity stalls all around the grounds with games and raffles to raise money for the various charities.  Of course there was a bar and burger stand and the burgers were particularly scrummy.  Later on at 9.00pm the Rock band started up with some most enjoyable rock and roll numbers.  Well done Wolds Bikers for a great evening out.

Skegness RNLI Bike Nite - 21 July 2016

Skegness RNLI hosted their annual Charity Bike Nite and were not disappointed with the turn-out.  Lincswings was well represented by Dick and Pat, Graham and Elaine, Mark, Stephen T, Andrew and Sandy.  The evening started at 4.00pm, and the RNLI carpark was soon filled up so that bikes and vintage cars were being diverted off along the Seafront and onto the main carpark.  The RNLI ladies had once more set up shop selling nick nacks to raise money for their charity.  Also in attendance was the County Linx Radio van, the Fire Brigade, Police, Skegness Bike Club and ROSPA tp mention but a few.  The evening continued to build with bikes and cars arriving on a regular basis, but they all seemed to find somewhere to fit in.  At around 7.00pm a (very) live band struck up to entertain the public with some heavy rock and roll music.

Monthly Meeting - Langworth 17 Jul 2016

Well our monthly meeting got off to a surprise start when we had 2 visitors appear at the door.  Colin and Angela from Banbury were travelling around Lincolnshire on their GL1800 when they spotted us parked outside Langworth Hall so they did a quick U turn and came in to see what was going on.

As new wingers they were still getting into the whole Goldwing scene and so they were happy to find us and learn all about what GWOC members get up to in their spare time.  They were made most welcome in the club and they stayed for the meeting before setting off on their way home to Oxfordshire.

Sandy led the meeting in his usual manner first with a review of the recent Lincswing wingding.  He was pleased to report extremely good feedback from all who had attended.  Also, our rideout and static display in Cleethopres had raised almost £90 for the RNLI Charity.  Martin, Christine, Dick and Pat had stayed on to return the collection buckets and hand over the donations.

After discussion it was agreed that we would plan to hold another wingding for 2017 around July time - to get the better weather.  Arrangements for the Skegness Light Parade were well advanced and we heard that the Golden Palm were continuing to receive bookings for the event.  Everyone now seemed happy with the arrangements and the route.  Sandy had also negotiated a deal with the Grosvenor Hotel in Skegness for a Xmas bash similar to last year.   People wishing to attend will need to contact Sandy for reservations.

After the meeting, although no rideout had been planned, it was decided to take a run up to Market Rasen Cricket Club as they were holding a Gala on the Cricket Ground.  7 bikes and 1 trike made the trip with Ron in the lead (Sandy followed on later).  At the ground, we were invited to display the bikes in the centre and lots of folks came to take a look.  The Gala included stalls as well as a BBQ (the cheese burgers were yummy) and a wildlife display of birds and reptiles.

We all went our separate ways from the Gala, so on our way home via Lincoln, Lynne and Stephen decided to park up near the Cathedral to go visit the Ceramic Poppy Wave by artist Paul Cummins and designer Tom Piper at Lincoln Castle.

Of course, this was only a small portion of the original display created in London and commemorating the centenary of The Great War (1914-18),  However, it is well worth the visit to see the effort that went into creating the display and also to see Lincoln Castle looking really excellent after its recent renovation work.

Lincs Wingers at the German Treffen

Stephen and Marie met up with Larry to establish a Lincs Wings Base at the German Treffen.  Stephen took the opportunity to fit some nice shiny Küryakyn hand grips whilst he was there before setting off for on a trip down to Italy.

Unfortunately, neat shiny grips don't stop you from getting a flat ! somewhere in Italy.  Sorry Stephen and Marie.

Grimsby Fishing Heritage Centre - 26 Jun 2016

Five members of Lincs Wings, that’s Mark, Ron & Dee and new members Paul & Sonny met at Willingham Woods tea stop for a run out to the Fishing Heritage Centre in Grimsby. Doug and Sue were unable to attend as Doug has, unfortunately, managed to injure his “already poorly” leg. Best wishes Doug for a speedy recovery. Mark asked if he could use the run out to test the route for the Wing Ding next weekend and all agreed. It would be wrong to give the details of the route but suffice to say it was a very good route, interesting and well planned. We all agreed that Mark, as usual, had done an excellent job. Well done, Mark. After arriving at the Museum we all had a well-deserved cuppa and snack before we all went our separate ways, with Mark going to view the aerobatics display at Armed Forces Day in Cleethorpes.  A really good day. Enjoyed by all.

Anglia Motel Bike Night - 21 Jun 2016

This was the first Bike Night event for the Anglia Motel at it's ideal location set back from the A17 in Fleet Hargate.  The event hadn't yet been widely advertised so turnout was a bit low with only around 25 bikes dropping in.  However, this would be expected for a first try and it was nice to see a wide selection of bikes arriving to park and show off, whilst their riders grabbed a drink and something to eat.  Lincs Wings was well represented with Sandy, Dick and Pat, Graham and Elaine, Stephen and his daughter Joanne, Paul and Sonny (new Members) and Larry.  There were 4 bikes from Norfolk Wings with Paula and Roy, as well as Trevor W, and a few others that I didn't catch their names.  We also found a selection of sports bikes, with a very fine looking 750VFR (always been a favourite of mine) and 2 vintage Army surplus BSAs looking mean in their green cammo paint.  Someone also brought along what can only be described as the 'Bat Bike' in green and yellow with tyres so wide that it didn't even need a side stand.  Inside the Cafe, staff welcomed us and provided drinks and food for those who wanted it.  The evening was a balmy 20C degrees cooling to only 17C so it was warm whatever you had decided to wear.  However, it was a pleasant ride out to a nice friendly location and we can hope that the word will get around the biking community and there will be bigger turnouts for future events.  Finally, as Stephen and Joanne departed, we took a picture of Sandy (organiser) and Lucy (Owner) who had set up the event from scratch.  Well done.

Monthly Meeting - 19 June 2016

Our regular meeting at Langworth Hall was well attended with 9 bikes in attendance.  Sandy welcomed everyone and also introduced Paul Milner who was thinking of joining GWOC.  He reviewed our arrangements for the Wing Ding, The Treffen and the Skegness Light Parade.  Additionally, Ron had made arrangements with Morrisons in Grimsby to allow us to park up in front of the store to collect donations for the Notts and |Lincs Air Ambulance Charity on 31 July 2016.  After the meeting, 4 bikes with Doug and Sue, Stephen and Paul, led by Mark and Debbie, set off on a round trip of Lincolnshire (via, Wragby, Caister, Willingham Woods, Market Rasen, Caenby Corner) to Kirten in Lindsey and the Mount Pleasant Windmill and cafe.  We enjoyed a most Pleasant lunch before setting off back to our respective bases.

Lancs and Lakes  10 - 12 Jun 2016

Well some of our members managed to make their way to Kendal RUFC for the Lancs and Lakes Wing Ding.  The 3 day event included a Medieval Tournament, a fantastic demonstration of hunting birds and snakes and to cap it all off, a most enjoyable Queen's 90th Birthday Celebration.  Doug and Sue, Dick and Pat and Sandy are seen here meeting with friends and having a good old fashioned Wing Ding.

Trent Wing Ding - 4 Jul 2017

On a foggy Saturday morning, Stephen and Lynne decided to pay a day visit to the Derbyshire Peak District to say hello to everyone at the Trent Wings Wing Ding.  A two hour ride found us at the Bakewell Showground where we were greeted by Janet who took our inscriptions and offered us a welcome cup of tea.   We met up with Larry and Caroll who had also taken a day trip, but they had arrived by car as Larry had only recently had an operation and was not yet allowed to drive.  Next we saw the arrival  of our newest member Andy, who arrived with the British Legion Riders, and they proceeded to set up stall to raise funds for their charity. Soon after, the day's rideout returned and we enjoyed watching all the different wings coming back in.  Up the front we saw Tim Brooks with his good lady on their new GL1800 Trike - very nice.  Toward the back we saw Ian and Sue Rushton on their new white GL1800 - nice to get a bit of mud on your tyres Ian.  Trent wings had organised a busy program throughout the week with rideouts each day and lots of other activities going on in the the park.  They are to be congratulated for a well organised event and everyone we spoke to agreed that they had enjoyed it (despite a few cold nights).

For the ride back, we diverted north through Chesterfield to follow the A616 back to Newark.  The sun was high in the sky and the roads were reasonably un-crowded.  All told we had a great day out but just regretted that we couldn't make it to stay for the week.  Well done Trent Wings.

Woody's Bike Nite - 30 May 2016

A bunch of us showed up at Woody's Bike Night in Ancaster last Monday Bank Holiday but no-one had the forethought to take a picture.  However, it was a fine evening, although it was a bit gusty on the open stretches.  Dick and Pat, Ian and Sue, Caroll and Larry, Stephen, and Doug all showed up to fly the Lincswings flag.  We were also joined by 'Carping Trev' who brought his silver blue trike to the event.  Unfortunately, Doug came on his Harley but we can forgive him this once.  The parking field was pretty well filled when I showed up at about 7.00pm.  Most of the bikes in attendance were the usual 'crotch rockets' with a few Ducati's, Triumphs Harleys and a couple of home made trike wagons thrown in for good measure.  But its not what you ride, its just the fact that you ride that lets you into an event like this.  The picnic area and the bar inside was filled with leather and modern textile clad bikers all tucking into burgers and chips, teas, coffees or beers as the mood suited.  Woody's now holds a bike Night every monday evening so if you are out and about and in the vicinity of Ancaster, why not call in for a bit of refreshment and a good chat with other like minded people.

Ride Safely Everyone

Cleethorpes - 19 May 2016

Ron and Dee had planned to ride up to Scarborough but they decided not to go as the day had started with dense fog. Instead they travelled up to their local seaside, Cleethorpes, and had the attached picture taken by the local “Deck Chair” man.  Did you know that Cleethorpes pier is the winner of “Pier of the Year 2016”?

The Oil Can Cafe 15 May 2016

This ride-out was initially planned for 1 May 2016 but poor weather and the recent loss of our friend and member Jayne, meant that we decided to call it off.  However the 15 May was planned as a trip to Squires but only 2 bikes were available for the trip, Doug and Sue, and Mark and Debbie.  So instead they headed out for the Oil Can Cafe and then on to Bawtry for a nice day's ride-out.  Here are the pictures to prove it

Monthly Meeting 8 May 2016

The regular meeting at Langworth Hall this month, was just in the wake of hearing the news about Jayne's sudden departure.  However it was good to see that so many of our members had turned out for the meeting and we also welcomed some 2 new members, Andrew and Leslie, who had just rejoined the GWOC.  Understandably, all of Lincswings was upset but Sandy had decided it was important to press on and continue the work that he and Jayne had begun with the Club.  So our meeting went ahead after a minute's silence to remember Jayne.  Sandy asked for a volunteer to take over the secretary's duties to fill in for the remainder of the year, so both Sues and Debbie agreed to provide cover.   Our upcoming arrangements for ride-outs, wingding and the Skegness Light Parade were all covered and there was a lengthy discussion to identify a venue where we can organise a static display and collect charity donation towards the Air Ambulance Fund.

Following the meeting, the planned ride-out to The Tyrwhitt Arms at Shortferry was joined by Stephen and Lynne, Andrew and Leslie, Doug and Sue, Dick and Pat, Stephen and Maria, and led by Mark and Debbie.  After an enjoyable ride through the country lanes we arrived at the Tyrwhitt Arms just to meet Sandy going home in the opposite direction.  The Pub food of Sunday roast beef and Yorkshire pudding was most enjoyable but service was a little slow.  Never the less, it was a lovely sunny day and it was worth the time just to relax and enjoy the atmosphere.  After dinner we set off back, gradually peeling off in our own directions to make our way home.
