The Lincs Wings monthly meeting was held at Market Rasen Cricket Club on 17 Nov 2019. Sandy gave us a run down on the discussions of the recent GWOC Open Meeting and Stephen gave an update on the changes to the Lincwings Website. Following the meeting, we enjoyed an early Christmas lunch served by the staff of Market Rasen Cricket Club. It was great to sit and talk whilst enjoying a lovely 3 course meal. The weather this day was cold and wet with many down-pores of rain along the way and a number of flooded roads causing disruption to Lincolnshire's roads. The only ones intrepid enough to chance the motorbike was Trevor and Marion on their yellow peril "Iris". Here are a few photos of our meeting and lunch.

Wickenby Airfield - 10 Oct 2019
Well the riding season is coming to a close so most Wings are tucked up warm in bed to hibernate for the winter. However, Ian and Larry decided to 'Spread their Wings' and took to a couple of new bikes for a run out to a local Bomber Command airbase at Wickenby. Here are the bikes whilst the old fellows decided to visit the cafe for a warm up. Her's a few pics of Ian and Larry’s new bikes on a run out and making the most of the dry weather at Wickenby Airfield. Both totally different to the wings.

Skegness Light Parade 2019
The 2019 Skegness Light Parade took place on 26 Sept 2019. Despite poor weather we were pleased to welcome 123 inscriptions. The Light Parade takes place from Friday evening through to Sunday so it makes a great weekend break at the end of the season. Now in its sixth year, the parade attracts thousands of visitors to Skegness bringing in much needed business to local traders before autumn sets in. This year, we raised money in aid of LIVES (Lincolnshire Integrated Voluntary Emergency Service) and we were pleased that our combined efforts help raise over £3500. Please visit our Skegness Light Parade Website for a detailed report and pictures of this year's parade.

Ride-out to Bomber Command - 15 Sep 2019
Our September meeting, as you might expect, was dominated by arrangements for the Skegness Light Parade due to take place at the end of this month. So after the meeting a small group got together with Ian to visit the Bomber Command Memorial. Ian led the run with Larry as tail end. Also Trevor and Marion, Mark and Debs, Wayne and Linda, Martin and Christine, Stephen and Lorraine and David. Doug and Sue eventually joined us but their wing would not start after the meeting so we left without them, but after we left it sprang back into life, they went home and came back in the car. We even met up with some previous members, Graham and Elaine who were displaying their Corvette in show.Ian was fascinated to find his 1987 Kawasaki GPZ750 turbo on display. He had not seen this since he traded it in to Jack Machin’s in 1991. He was told by Machin’s a few weeks later it had been written off!!
It was on display for the Wings and Wheels and the current owner since 1991 has lived just a few miles away!! in Branston Booth’s. On speaking with him, he confirmed that it had been written off and it also wrote off the car that hit him. He kept the bike and has since put it back to roadworthiness allowing it to clock up many miles in the South of France, round Nurburgring, Mallory park and Cadwell. The current owner even got banned on it at 109mph. However, it only comes out for the shows now.Ian said "Sorry, can’t tell you much about the event, I was too interested in my old bike, but a good time seem to be had by all".Pictures by Ian

Wall of Death Rideout - 8 Sep 2019
As always our intrepid Ride-Out coordinator, Ian, had took the time to shuffle us out of our beds on a sunny Sunday morning for a rideout - His motto is 'Use it or lose it !!. So 4 wings and one trike arrived at Willingham woods (Ian & Sue, Wayne, Larry, Stephen T, and the Martin & Christine) first for a coffee and then to ride in a group up to the Marrowbone and Cleaver pub near Humber Airport. It was great to see Christine out and about after her illness. She is still receiving chemotherapy but today she felt up to the challenge. The route to the pub was a little diverse taking us up some very country lanes. However we arrived in good order. Bike parking cost £1 each but it was on a nice concrete surface so no complaints. We ambled down to the pub and first invested a few coins in lunch - there were lots of vendors around selling everything from hot dogs to T shirts. After a quick repast we crossed the road to the main event - The Wall of Death. It cost £3.00 to enter and we climbed up the stairs to a viewing gallery looking down on the wall and the riders. The noise of the engines (many without silencers I suspect) was quite deafening in the marquee but the spectacle was well worth it. Bikes and riders zoomed around the wall threatening at any moment to come flying out the top or to crash down to the bottom. But the riders clearly had it in hand - or indeed with no hands on occasion. On young lady sat on her handle bars, sat side saddle, stood up and did many stunts that pleased the crowd. Then a brave sole drove a quad bike around the wall showing that all was possible and then finally a threesome took off and gradually merged to be three abreast before descending once more to the ground. For £3.00 it was a great show. Retiring from the arena, we indulged in ice-creams before making our individual ways back home. Many thanks to Ian and Sue for thinking of this excursion and to the other wingers who joined us. Here are a few photos of the day. Just click the picture to view the album.

A Day at the Races - 1 Sep 2019
On a slightly dodgy looking Sunday, a few of us set out for a rendezvous in Wragby for a day visit to Cadwell Park. Today was a free entry as it was a Track Day. This means that lots of young enthusiasts pay to take their bikes around the track trying to emulate their racing heroes. Four wings and one Pan European (Ian and Sue, Doug and Sue, Mark and Debbie, Stephen T and Mick) gathered in the car-park and we set out just after 11.00am for Cadwell. The omens were not good as it started to rain as soon as we began. However, it did dry up so on we pressed towards Cadwell passing a mass of bikers going in the opposite direction - I wonder what we were missing ? We arrived at Cadwell with the sun shining and so we started the day with a yummy Track Day Breakfast - egg, bacon, sausage, beans, toast and coffee. The pay-as-you-go riders set off around the track, testing the bends and enjoying the thrills. But very soon it started once more to rain so the riders were pulled back in. This set the theme for the rest of the day with showers and dry spells and riders anxiously waiting for their chance to get on the track. It wasn't all doom and gloom but I did pity the poor lads whose day was being spoiled by these showers and occasional downpours. However, it did mean that our group had lots of time in the cafe and a chance to catch up on all the gossip. By 3.00pm we decided it was time to depart and the sun was shining. However, by the time we had mounted up, the rain was again falling and so went my journey home with sun and rain in equal proportions. None the less, we had a nice day out despite the weather and our thanks to Ian and Sue for organising an enjoyable excursion. Here are a few photos of the day - just click on the picture to view the album.

Following a family holiday in Wales, Trevor and Marion decided to visit the Isle of Man and try their skills on the TT race course. Here is their report of a costly adventure:
The first couple of days were wet with fog on the hills, so our first run round the course was a bit damp and quite slow. The next day we stuck to local transport taking a train up the island. We took the full trip from Douglas to Ramsey but the train stops outside of town and it was very disappointing. The stop off at Laxey was much better, with Trevor walking to see the famous Laxey Wheel - while I went for an ice-cream. It also has a small steam mine train if you like technical stuff so I’d recommend just going there. The next day the weather picked up and we were able to get better rides over the course. There was a fair amount of traffic in the villages but we had 2 good runs over the mountain where there is a de-restricted speed limit! On the third run we stopped for coffee & cake at Creg-ny-baa pub (they had the nicest cake we’d found so far) from there we decided to go back over the mountain the other way to see the views. As we head down off the actual mountain, the real adventure begins…
The ABS light started flashing coming down the hill, then after a stop the bike refused to start. After about an hour AA man number 1 says ‘there’s no fault’ and takes us looking for a new battery. This involves 2 closed shops, a Honda dealer who doesn’t sell Wing batteries but who ‘knows a man who might’ - and finally we had a new battery. After limping back to the hotel, Trevor then had a fun time working in the garage swapping the battery for a nice shiny new one.At this point all SEEMED well so the next day we joined the ferry for our return to Liverpool. After sometime in heavy traffic, many lights started flashing and we crept a bit further on where Trevor could safely pull over as the whole bike gave up and the engine cut out. I don’t know where we were but it didn’t look a very nice area. At around 7 o'clock, enter AA man number 2. He agrees with us that the alternator (only installed in Feb) is bust and we can’t ride it. He says he could tow us but only 40 miles, or we can wait 2 hours for a flat bed that will take us all the way home. So we go for option 2 and cancel the hotel we were meant to go to that night. The AA man didn’t like where we were any more than us and said we wouldn’t be able to be picked up there. The battery had recovered so the bike would run for a short time so AA man number 2 escorted us to the main Liverpool FC Anfield car-park to wait.
After 2 hours wondering if the natives with big dogs were friendly, AA man number 3 showed up. It took him and Trevor about an hour to load the bike into a front wheel cradle and to winch it onto his flat bed. Just one problem, he didn't have enough driving hours left to take us all the way home. So the driver arranged for a transfer at Hartshead Moore services - unfortunately we calculate that at his maximum 53mph he’ll have to stop for a 45 minute break at the Birch services 20 miles before the hand over. Off we go to Birch services. Not much was open, but Trevor managed to get 3 free minutes on a massage chair, he wasn’t impressed!
When we arrived at Hartshead Moore, AA man number 4 was already waiting for us, and at my suggestion we saved time by leaving the bike on the cradle and the new man giving the old one his cradle. Perhaps this one could get us home? NO. He came from Manchester and could only get as far as Blyth services on the A1, otherwise he would run out of hours before getting back to his base! Is this starting to sound familiar !!
So now you’re expecting AA man number 5? Er no, there aren’t any nearby so they arranged a switch to a ‘local provider’ who was waiting for us at Blyth. Not being AA he didn't have a front cradle at all. This meant they couldn’t winch the bike onto his flat-bed and so 3 men had to push the Wing up the sloping bed, testing nerves even more.
At least this man did take us home now arriving at 4.20 AM, when of course all the street lights in our area are turned off to save costs. This made backing up trucks round tight corners and manhandling a wing off the back of the truck that bit more interesting. Luckily we got our bike into our garage without being dropped and we finally got off to bed.
All that remains is for Trevor to complain to the alternator supplier, and spend many happy hours laying bits of bike all over the garage, before switching them over and then putting all the bits back again. Oh, and trying to convince the holiday insurance they should refund the non-refundable hotel bill.
So it could have been better, but we got back all in one piece so it could have been worse. Here are a few photos of our journey - click the photo.

Our monthly meeting took place at Market Rasen Cricket Club but attendance was lower than usual due to many of our members being out visiting other regions or on holiday. Sandy gave us a report on the LINCS Wing Ding held last month. With 105 inscriptions the event made a profit of £605 (having given another £605 to GWOC). In addition to this a total of £790 was raised for the LIVES charity. The event was therefore considered to have been a great success and was well received by all who attended. Sandy thanked the Wing Ding Committee members and all who helped to make the event run smoothly.
The Skegness Light Parade to be held this year on 28th Sept will raise money for LIVES. The format will also change due to road works and other considerations. The daytime display will be around the Hildreds Shopping Centre and along Beresford Avenue. The light parade will set off from Hildreds down to the Clock Tower and will then proceed up to the top of North Parade and back to the Clock Tower twice before returning in convoy to the Golden Palm Holiday Camp.
After the meeting a few members (Mark and Debbs, Dave, Larry) elected to follow Ian for a ride out to Wickenby Airfield for a coffee and lunch at the Airfield Cafe.

During the weekend on 2-4 Aug, 3 members of Lincswings attended the Staffordshire Wing Ding, Mark, Debbie and Martin. They all had a great time with rides out escorted by a Safety Bike Teams. On the Saturday the ride out stopped at Macclesfield town centre where the bikes made a great impression with all. During the evening presentations Mark and Debbie won a trophy for furthest travelled and Martin won a trophy for Best Solo Bike. After the rain Saturday night the journey back was dry and sunny. Here's Tim handing out the awards.
