Corby Glen - Oct 2020

Lynne and I received a text from Trev and Marion "Would you like a ride out". Well my wing had been in the garage all year.  I recently took it for MOT and it sailed through but Honda Grantham noted that I had only done 194 miles since the last inspection.  That's what happens when you are screening your old mum and can't go out.

Well on Sunday morning Trev and Marion showed up at our place in Billinghay and we set off south through Lessingham then down the A15 to Bourne.  We turned right at Bourne following some very nice roads till we arrived at Corby Glen where we stopped to have munchies at The March Hare Tea rooms.  This is a lovely little cafe which is obviously popular with bikers and we enjoyed coffee and cakes.  I had a Lincolnshire sausage roll which was generous in size and delicious to eat.

After repast we set off north through the Bitchfield bends - a lovely twisty road that is great for bikers.  Then on through Old Somerby and onto the A52 for a pleasant ride east, back to the A15 through Osbournby and back to Sleaford.  Arriving at the Sleaford Holdingham roundabout we detoured into the town to fill up at TESCOs and then through the town to return to Billinghay.  In all a very nice trip of 72 miles with pleasant weather (not too hot not too cold and not wet) and in very pleasant company.

Thank you Trev and Marion for including us on such a lovely trip.

Trev and Marion's Kelso Trip - Sep 2020

During lockdown we decided to go for a short break, somewhere in the UK, once the restrictions were lifted.

So in September we went to Kelso for five nights at the Ednam House Hotel. This Hotel is a fine old house right on the river and even in these restricted times is welcoming to visitors. The rooms are old style, clean and comfortable. It has a great breakfast and a good restaurant. Not exactly cheap, but we like it and you only live once!

We set off northward on a Tuesday, using a varied route to avoid the A1. From home to the Humber Bridge, Market Weighton, York, Thirsk, North Allerton, Darlington and A68 to Jedburgh then Kelso. Perhaps not the most direct route, but quite interesting. With a fuel stop in Lincoln and a couple of comfort breaks we arrived in Kelso late afternoon to a warm welcome at the hotel.

Everyone knows Kelso, it has hosted a number of British treffens over the years and is good base for the Border roads.  The plan was for a run out each day, but the first day was a bit wet, it was Scotland after all! so we spent the day exploring the delights of Kelso.

On Thursday we went for a run to Dunbar, using some of the smaller roads north to the coast and following east to Dunbar. Lunch was taken at the Graze Coffee and Chocolate House in Dunbar, very nice. Then back on the road south to Berwick-upon-Tweed and back to Kelso via Coldstream. The back roads are good, with nice views, even the A1 is good along this stretch.

Friday dawned, another good day for the weather, so we set off for a day’s run. This time to Selkirk, Moffat, Peebles, north to pick up the A7 and south to Galashiels, east to Kelso. Selkirk to Moffat is an especially nice run, good road surface, nice views and plenty of places to eat in Moffat.

Saturday’s run out was down to Dumfries via Jedburgh, Hawick, Langholm and Lockerbie. We returned to Kelso via Moffat, Selkirk and Jedburgh. Yes, the Selkirk to Moffat run again, we enjoyed it so much the previous day I decided to try it south to north this time.

Sunday arrived all too quickly, so we packed up the bike (that doesn’t take long), checked out and headed South. Basically using the same route we took coming North, except we diverted over to Helmsley. I have a soft spot for the North York Moors, and although maybe not strictly there, it was near enough for this trip. From there it is a simple trip to Pickering and South to the Humber Bridge. Having time in hand we came home via Brigg then Caistor and Horncastle. The Caistor High Street is one of my favourite runs (in either direction), relatively quiet with flowing corners and hills. The views are good too!

All in, during this trip we covered around 950 miles.

LINCS Wings Meet at Last - 9 Aug 2020

After a long and boring sojourn in our homes, as dictated by the government COVID restrictions, LINCS Wings finally managed to gather at our regular meeting place at Market Rasen Cricket Club.  Not everyone could attend as some were still shielding or taking care not to take risks with infection.  However, we did manage a reasonable gathering and even had 6 Goldwings to park up outside.    It was good to see Lorraine, David and Trudy in attendance after their individual trials and problems this year.  All seemed to be doing well.

Sandy gave us his usual warm welcome (which included a bollocking for those who had not replied to his e-mails) but he was still glad to see us all.  He then gave us a list of apologies for those unable to attend and then tried to give us a run down on the state of the Club and the planning and cancellation of events.  It was unfortunate that the Skegness Light Parade would not be allowed to proceed due to COVID restrictions, but Sandy was already making plans to hold the parade next year.  Those who had booked accommodation at the Blue Anchor resort could opt to keep their booking for next year, receive a refund or simply come and stay for this year's booking and just enjoy the weekend without a parade.  It was suggested that we may create a SKLP 2020 COVID patch that could be sold to raise money for LIVES.

Without much more to report, the meeting segued into a general chat and catch-up between us all.  It was good to see familiar faces and for myself, it was the first time my Goldwing had been out of the garage since February so for me - it was a good day. Here are a few photos I managed to snap during the meeting.
